Turning This Grey World Green

Turning This Grey World Green

The snow clouds down on us, a falling sky
Now lost beyond itself to leave this home
So deep in white. We turn towards what lies
Beneath our footsteps trudging deep and slow

On through this drifting winter sharp with cold
Until the tired days fade away behind
The steps we leave to walk from winter frost
To face a warming sun now rising up

As dawn leads us from darkness into spring
Out here we wait, all eager for the sun
To shine this dark old land to growing new
Again it breaks into wild budding life

The season takes a fresh new breath of warmth
The slow damp fog is lifting from our sleep
A time of growing new from this old land
To turn this grey cold world to waking green.
